The President of The Mosman Parks & Bushland Association, Kate Eccles, has received an OAM for services to conservation and the environment.
Kate has been President of Mosman Parks & Bushland since 2012. Prior to that she was Secretary.
Kate was on the committee of the Headland Preservation Group (HPG) in various roles from 2004 until 2011.
She is a member of the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust’s Community Advisory Committee (CAC), and she coordinates three Bush Care groups.
Kate said, “I am delighted to have received this recognition. It has been my privilege to work with two fantastic Mosman organisations, the Headland Preservation Group and Mosman Parks & Bushland. I have had wonderful mentors in both groups – Linda Bergin and Don Goodsir in the HPG, and Sue Halmagyi, Audrey Lenning and Connie Sievers in MPBA. They have taught me a huge amount about the preservation of public land and about bushland and bush regeneration.
It is also my great honour to carry on the legacy of the Bradley sisters who developed the concept of bush regeneration right here in Mosman.
I am grateful too for the connections I’ve made at all levels of government – Zali Steggall, our Federal member, Felicity Wilson, our State member and Carolyn Corrigan, Mosman mayor, and Mosman councillors. I have found them all very approachable and willing to listen.
But I could not do it alone. MPBA has a capable and knowledgeable committee to whom I am extremely grateful. Their work is invaluable.”
